Prakash Jha's Aarakhshan : Falling Victim Of Politics?

Indian movies have to apply for certificate to the censor board. Censor board goes through the movie and based on that issues certificate. Those certificates tell whether it is for adult view of general view and such things. Board often advises director to cut some scenes or rework on them if needed.

But we have another censor board at place which is non official censor board. It is called political parties of India who time and again dont tell movies get released. Be it be deepa mehta's water or fire , be it be shiv sena's threat to my name is khan or congress inspired ban on aandhi , time and again due to one reason or other political parties have decided on our behalf about what to view or what not to view.

The latest victim is aarakhshan which has been banned in uttar pradesh and punjab. Rajdeep sardesai tweeted about the issue and hinted towards upcoming elections in both states in next year.

Aarakhshan is one of the most sensitive topics in India and there will always be divided opinion on the subject but we must trust our citizens in our ability to maturely debate on anything rather than banning films.

I would like to reproduced dialogue from the movie between Manoj Bajpayee and Saif Ali Khan. They are not exact dialogues but does give view point of two different people , seeing things in different perceptive.

Manoj -
'Humhaare baache mehant kar kar ke admission lete hain ,aur aap log aise hi aa jaate hain. Mehnat karne se darr lagta hai?'

Saif -
'Aap humhe mehnat ka paath padaayenge. Aap logo ke khet joye humne, aap logo ki fasal kaati humne , yahan tak ki aap logo ki ta**i bhi sar pe thoyi humne, aur aap n mehnat ka paath padaayenge?'

Now if we look at this small dialogue , it itself states entirely two different world and its perceptive. Now banning is solution?. Do many left out upper caste people think like manjo bajpai thinks in this movie?. Well they do. Do dalits feel the same as saif feels in this dialogue , well they do.

Banning things wont change how people feel , think and speak. Would it?. Debating is important and needed. We need to relook at entire reservation policy. I am not against reservation policy. I have seen its benefit in lives of people who would have been forced to remain where they are without reservation policy. But at same time I believe benefits of reservation are not reaching where it should. We need
reservation to reach to people who actually need it and not for people who have two generations working for government and having all facilities .

According to me reservation policy must have rider of applicable upto two generations only , thus allowing others from dalit community to reap its benefits.

But as I said those are my views and there needs to be many many other views which can be debated before reaching to proper conclusion.

Politicians who benefit from caste divided India quite often score political points by objecting or even banning such movies or depictions in art. Why?. If people of India are mature enough to get them elected , can't we have conducive environment for debate?

Answer is perhaps NO. Our politics still works on caste and as long as we have that we would see more aarakhshans getting banned.
